Hence, the human resource manager have a broad scope to oversee and Basically human resource managers do everything with in organisation ranging from managerial to administrative activities such as job designing, interviewing, performance appraisals, conflict resolving, policy formulating, staff training, salary negotiation and more importantly create a safe, healthy and fair Working environment. Therefore,  Human Resource Manager should possess solid Academic background, skills, abilities, knowledge and experience in order to perform his role and duties successfully. This easy will out line the essential ingredient that human resource manager should strive with in him

Social and economic awareness

Human resource manager should have a awareness about relevant domain's social and economic aspects. Because human resource manager Mainly focus on humans of organisation. Then humans are intrinsically bound with economic and social profile of particular regions, that means the employees mind set, attitudes and thinking patterns and his or her lifestyle have been shaped by the influence of social and economic aspects. Therefore, human resources manager have to take those concerns in to account as doing his job. It helps many situation of his role, but Mainly in policy formulating.

For example.

Let’s take a company, which operating in middle east. They have a rather different social and economic situation when comparing to Europe. Their cultural is different. They have some religious events and practices that have to be considered when formulating leave or holiday policy planning. Otherwise the organisation may be unable to ensure employee retention.

Another example, Let’s take Sri  lanka,  There are social norms that people are reluctant to do labour intensive activities because they consider this is not appropriate for their social status, however in some countries like Australia or Canada, those activities are not considered as a indicator of relevant persons social status. So, the human resource manager have to consider that factor when recruiting labours for organisations.

Analytical skills

Human resource manager should possess a higher level of analytical skills. It necessitate many situation of his job role, mainly when conducting performance appraisals, under performance appraisals HR manager have to delineate each employees each skills and abilities development separately. Sometimes the employee may be well performing in one job role however, in the same time, he may be not well performing in a another job role. In this situation the HR manager should be able to distinguish his strengths and weaknesses and thereby admitting him to training or other activities to mend his or her short comings.




Further, analysts skills are a vital ingredient for HR manager to staffing, conflict resolving, recruiting and policy planning. In short, analytical skills helps to give a solution for a problem Quickly and correctly after analysing the problem.

Communication

As a manager, He or she must have a healthy relationship with other branches of organisation such as finance, logistics, commercial, production etc and also with the general management of organisation. Because one of major part of HR is applying appropriate workers to each branches of organisation. Hence the HR manager have to get informed about the gaps within other branches workforce. Those branches managers are the individuals who know well about the gaps in workforce. Hence, HR manager should maintain a good and effective communication between branches of organisation and thereby contributing to proceed organisation function with out disruption.




Next, HR manager should have a effective communication with general management of organisation in order to communicate broader facts and thereby stepping to take policy level reforms and thence implement them for future prospects of organisation.

Leadership

The Human Resource Manager must have leadership abilities apart from Managerial abilities. Because to perform HR management tasks, HR manager must have a staff known as HR department. Then he have to direct his staff in order to  perform his tasks such as job analysing, interviewing, performing analysis, compensation, arranging training programs, policy planning etc. Sometimes he may needs to implement changes within his department in order to cope with new developments within organisation and challenges that standing in front organisation. In this situation, HR manager should possess strong leadership skills to effectively  behave his team to gain productive results. And also decision making skills to identify  the appropriate direction for for particular situation which is a part of leadership.

Negotiation skills



Negotiation is often associated with HR management practices, because every thing in management have not rigidly defined. Instead there are some flexible things that have to be decided according to situation. For example, mainly in private organisations, concerns about salary is flexible, in this situation The HR manager should have negotiation skills to persuade individual employees to commensurate salary level so that it can be afforded by organisation, which is called as “win- win situation”.  Sometimes, negotiations have to be done with individual worker or sometimes with trade unions. The HR management usually have negotiation with trade unions regarding the matter of compensation, leaves, workplace health and safety conditions, promotions, transferring etc which demanding higher level of negotiation skills.
