Training and Development

 

Introduction 

Training and development is a systematic setup where employees are  familiarized to particular technology, subject or working  procedures in order to perform relevant job activity correctly and effectively, and it is a educational opportunity for employees to improve skills, knowledge and talent germane to specific job activity. Then it is a one of a important function of Human Resource Management, further it is a long term investment for organisation which in turn heavily contributes to success of organisation.



Training and development programs structure and composition should be decided  on the basis of scale and the Type of organisation and also it should be related with organisation short and long term strategic objectives, such as business  expanding, surviving etc.   next domicile of the company should be concerned while organizing  training and development programme. 

Why Training and development is important

Basically, purpose of training and development is enhancing the employees performance and thereby increasing the overall performance of organisation. Modern business sector is highly competitive and dynamic , even surviving is also challenging,  new competitors come in to industry on daily basis. New technologies, machines and production techniques in flux to industry frequently.

 on the other hand,  organisations have to function under highly volatile political and economical environment, Hence those all aspects necessitate having  highly skilled and competitive work force in order to preserve organisation. Then,  business organisation should induct new technologies,  machineries and  procedures in order enhance cost effectiveness of production process and maintain Quality of production or service and thereby preserving demand for particular production.



So, company should have a mechanism to educate its workers for new technologies and procedures, and accustomed to new machineries etc.  Normally large scale business organisation have their own training centres, whereas sometimes they have to  outsource training services from external institutions to get their employees familiarized to relevant technologies and skills.

In employees perspective, it is great opportunity for them to grow their proficiency over the relevant job tasks. Normally recruiters Join to company with academic qualifications that they normally obtain from university or technical colleges etc, during academic stage, they generally learn theoretical knowledge, skills and some extents of applications of learned knowledge, but generally, they don’t have a ability to practically applied  these skills or technical knowledge effectively and creatively, usually they learn application of skills and knowledge after they having joined to company. So,  training and development programs can expedite the familiarization process of new comers in to company and thereby organisation can assign work activities them to do at standard level both in terms of Qualitative and quantitative.

 Other benefit’s of Training and development to company

It is cheaper for organisation to training its current employees rather than inducting a new employees who possess relevant skill or ability

Training and development enhance the employees devotion to company as it is a opportunity for them get trained by organisation patronage. Then in turn it increase the motivation of employees to perform well.

Challenges  of Training and development from Human resource manager's perspective  

Financing

Financing the training and development programme is the biggest challenge that human resource managers face. Because, it is inevitable in modern business context that, ever business organization practice  strict austerity measures over the expense, most of business owners are intrinsically  keen on investing money on lucrative projects, business expanding etc rather than development of human resources, hence Human Resource manager finds it difficult to get funds allocated for training and development programme.

Coordination and communication    

The training and development is a big and broader job which is involved by dozen of managerial and administrative activities. Then the human resource manger have to figure that whom have to be selected to training programme, then what  subject, skill or  technologies  should be taught and how those are the basic Questions that arise for HR manager when preparing” T and D”. to answer those question, the HR manager ought to  get other branch managers actively participated to design the training programme.



 It is HR manager responsibility to encourage other mangers and it s workers to give their support and feedback, howbeit, owing to other peoples attitudes and sentiments, some times they are apathetic  about training and development programme, and they do not give their full support to that. So,  The HR manager should maintain a healthy and  effective  relationship with other branches of company, and have to have a effective communication and coordination. He should convince the importance of Training and development   

Risk involvement

Owing to prevailing  high competitiveness in business industry,  The technologies and machines that are used to production, is bound to be supplanted by new technology or new sophisticated machineries. this is frequently happen in IT related fields. Then there is a risk over particular Training and development programmes long term  applicability of learning out comes on  production or functional activity of related business company.   

Conclusion

Training and development is a strategic approach to forming a  pipelines of skilful,  talented, creative and competitive  employees in order to meet the organization short and long term objectives. Training and development programme should be appropriated to  company current and future objectives.   The human resource manager is the central figure who have to  inspire employees to participate T & D programme, and he have to convince top management to importance of Training and Development programme,  also T & D programme are beneficial not only for company but for employees as well.

  1. Training and development supports employees to improve their skills and ready for the future challenges. Without proper guidance and and education companies cannot develop their competitive advantages. One of the best example for this is "Career Choice" program launched by the Amozon in 2012. It offered tuition and fee coverage and textbook reimbursement. Almost every leading company has this types of programs. As concluded in this blog T & D programme are beneficial not only for company but for employees as well.
